After the first operation

andrei_1op.jpg MI am awake. What’s this tube in my nose? I will get it out with my right hand….

Andrei extubated by himself at 10 pm. The doctors decided not to intubate him again, but just keep the tube in his nose, in CPAP mode, in order to be able to monitor his breathing and help him a little.

The day of the first operation

The doctors decided that there will be four surgical interventions:
1. At the abdominal level
2. At the thoracic level
3. To apply Doctor Foker’s esophageal elongation method
4. To put together the esophageal ends

The operation was six hours long and the following activities were performed by Dr. Gitter:
- the right diaphragm muscle was brought lower, to make enough space for the right lung
- the lower esophageal end was closed
- a new standard gastrostomy has performed

What was discovered:
- the lower esophageal end is only half of a centimeter long
- the stomach was not in the right position

What decision has been taken
- Dr. Foker would like to try and apply his method, even if the lower esophageal end is so short
- It will be decided the date for Dr Foker’s visit

How is the patient?
- a little bit swollen
- the rhythm of his breath has been slowed down

Planning the first operation in Germany

- To bring together the edges of the esophagus
- New gastrostomy
- Folds in the diaphragm (which tends to get in a higher position than allowed)
- Enlarge the pylori orifice

There would be two other interventions. One for the traction tension (most probably after the edges of the esophagus are healed) and one for the anastomosis. The estimated total cost in the most unfortunate case: 80.000 EURO.( approx.$102.000) ]>
